Cha Gyuhan huffed and fumed well into lunchtime. Usually a man who never let negative emotions linger, he found it impossible to swallow his temper this time. He even chewed restlessly on his lower lip.

Five minutes before lunch break, he sent Gong Jio a message with the grim solemnity of a warrior delivering a formal challenge.

❮0go⠇

Eat lunch with me, you fucker.

It was childish in the extreme… the sort of juvenile phrasing one might throw around back in middle or high school.

Staring down his monitor, Gyuhan waited for a reply, but none came.

He only realized how much time had slipped away when his secretary, returning from his own meal, asked, “Haven’t you eaten yet, Director?”

Snapping back to his senses, Gyuhan checked the time—an entire hour had already passed. Gyuhan, who had never focused on anything this intensely since his school days—or in his entire life, really—lifted hollow, bloodshot eyes and asked, “Where’s Attorney Gong?”

“He already ate, sir.”

“Is he in his office right now?”

“No. He had an outside schedule, so he stepped out.”

“Son of a bitch!” Gyuhan spat a vicious curse and slammed his fist down onto the desk.

The secretary took a loud sip of his coffee through his straw—sluuurp—and closed the door without batting an eye.

“Making a guy bust his balls waiting!”

Nobody had asked him to wait, and calling staring blankly at a monitor “busting balls” was a massive stretch.

Come afternoon, the documents Gong Jio had organized were dutifully brought up. Jio himself, of course, never showed. Gyuhan huffed and puffed, peeling off the sticky notes Jio had neatly jotted summaries on, either approving or rejecting the files.

When clock-out time arrived, he went home, engaged in a furious session of teeth-brushing and showering, watched his ultimate cinematic masterpiece—the movie featuring his life’s personal motto and revered hyung-nims—to bleed off stress, and fell asleep.

Until then, Gyuhan hadn’t sent a single reply to the message from Merry Matchmaking. More precisely, it had slipped his mind entirely, completely forgotten…. Totally and utterly.
